...like "Deficit Commission" co-chairs Erskin Bowles (D) and Alan Simpson (R) - Suck On This!
Rich people who want to screw the "least of your brothers" have a single deserved destination. Eternal damnation in the fires of Hell. There are days when I think that a belief in Biblical literalism might not be such a bad thing.
More on this abomination here.
The commission's proposals, if I understand them, seemed terrible. Did they suggest a lower top tax bracket? How does that make sense from a committee designed to think of ways to lower the debt?
But there should be room in national politics for a moderate voice to suggest raising the SS/medicare age slightly, like to 67, especially if we have put in place regulations and subsidies to give lower income and unemployed people better health insurance. That seems like a viable middle way if we are looking at lower tax revenue for the forseeable future. But the discussion is dominated by hysterical claims that entitlements will make the US insolvent.
It's a weird feeling to miss Bob Dole.

..the premature ejaculations from these committee chairpersons may indeed be an excited anticipatory response to the howls of execration bound come from, gee, (maybe?) 19 out of the G-20.
There may some unfertilized egg on the Presidents face when he, er, faces the other countries whose investors purchased over-rated securities along with insurance from a company with no liquidity... these other leaders, whose tidy financial regulations didn't save them from the wrath of their own angry citizens facing austerity, are looking... no demanding... that the culprit pay up!
Yet in Mad America we shrug: "What, we pay?"
As Obama slinks in asking for a bigger allowance he'll point to these two gaffers on TV as say that we're all working hard at tightening our belt.
Meanwhile the Fed is pumping cash into the economy.. almost a trillion just last week..which has the effect of discounting the debt held abroad and 'pissing off' the vassal states.
Seen in this light... the rushed nonsense.. well ahead of the "published report" is mere theatre. I love that you too are filling a dramatic role.
'The Sun Always Sets' may be an polite title for this little erectile melodrama.
