Yesterday was D-Day and it's not too late to post a link to this Robert Capa portfolio of pictures from June of 1944. I reflected on the event by watching "Saving Private Ryan" for the first time in over ten years - which is very powerful, if bound by Hollywood conventions - and listening to President Obama's speech from Normandy, celebrating the veterans of D-Day. There's little, really, that can be said about this epic, world-changing event other than an expression of awe at the courage and sacrifice of those men who created a beach-head and second front against the Nazi war machine those first few days of the Normandy invasion.
If you watch that opening sequence carefully, Reg, you'll see that Spielberg's actually staging some of Capa's D-Day pictures.
