A genuine American hero. Here's a little more about him.
Here's the most important comment by him, in my opinion:
"In a wiser past, we tried Nazi war criminals in the sunlight. Summing up for the prosecution at Nuremberg, Robert Jackson said that 'the future will never have to ask, with misgiving: "What could the Nazis have said in their favor?" History will know that whatever could be said, they were allowed to say. . . . The extraordinary fairness of these hearings is an attribute of our strength.' The world has never doubted the judgment at Nuremberg. But no one will trust the work of these secret tribunals."
Indeed. Heh.
I've always thought that publicity was best. I thought the worst punishment for bin Laden would be to get a fair & public trial, then sent to prison, where he'd be well-fed, allowed to pray, etc. Also, denied a martyrdom death. Let the world see our humanity.

I sincerely hope I am still alive when the full 'doings' of this administration are made public. Thanks for brining this individual, and his efforts, to my attention.

Sabin's not alone in his fight. There was a military defense crew headedby a LtCmdr Swift, as I recall his name (could be wrong), who fought like hell for the same habeas corpus issue, along with other detainee rights. This team really surprised and pissed off their DOD masters who had expected them to do desultry, lame job because they were, well, DOD employees. Imagine Rummy et al's displeasure when it developed that these guys took their defense responsibilities seriously and came up with arguments that made troubling sense from legal and moral points of view. Jeez, that's the last thing the Bush admin needs, valid defenses being mounted against them....

Tambopaxi,
No question, Swift is a hero also, but Sabin did what he did pro bono in the larger sense of the word: pro bono publico.
Bystander,
I hope we all are.
Miguel,
Thanks for coming by. Good to hear from you again. Hope all is well.
