There has been a lot of unhappiness in the Left Blogisphere over the decision of the Nevada State Democratic Party to agree to a Presidential Debate hosted by those "Fair and Balanced" folks at FOX News. I guess the prospect of Sean Hannity and Ann Couler giving play-by-play accounts (as they did in 2004 at a debate) didn't exactly thrill the progressive base.
Well I have a simple solution. Recently FOX decided to give the DAILY SHOW a run for its money with something called the HALF-HOUR NEWS HOUR which, to be charitable, hasn't exactly wowed the critics in its test runs. This show will be paired with one by Michele Malkin (now there's "Must see TV for Masochists!). So since FOX wants to get into the comedy business I suggest the Nevada Dems go to the real thing.
I say they should approach Comedy Central to host the debate over there. Get Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert to moderate and ask questions. Maybe have a panel of comedians like Whoopi Goldberg, Bill Maher, and the Millers (Stephanie and Dennis) join in grilling the candidates. Who knows? They'd probably ask more probing questions than FOX - or CBS, MSNBC, or CNN! And the audience would be alive (Bill O'Reilly's audience averages 71 years of age) and open to what the Dems have to say.
Look Stewart and Colbert are already "Can't miss" stops for Pols and the latest thing is to announce on Letterman and Leno. So why not a debate?
Let's push the envelope!
