Colombian President, Álvaro Uribe was mentioned in a 1991 report by the US Defense Intelligence Agency claiming that he was a close personal friend of Pablo Escobar, the notorious head of the Medellin cartel who was killed in 1993.
This came about as the result of a Freedom of Information Act Request by the National Security Archives. The government of Colombia has denied the allegations, but this is not the first time allegations such as this have surfaced. That, combined with his reckless and irresponsible remarks about the human rights workers in Colombia leave me with suspicions. Suspicions, however, are not proof, so I'll leave it at that. Still in all, after the allegations about former President Samper taking money from narcotraffickers and after the "safe zone" that former President Pastrana turned over to the FARC, it would be nice to have a president in Colombia completely free of suspicion. Vamos a ver.
