I would be seriously remiss if I failed to acknowledge that today marks the 150th birthday of what may be the most glorious creation in New York: Central Park. Of all the stressful and difficult aspects of life that are part and parcel of living in this city, Central Park adds such a blissful counterweight.
We all too often take the park for granted and I have to add myself to this list. In preparing for this post I realized that I do not have any pictures of the park. Nevertheless, I will visit it in the future with a renewed appreciation for what it has meant to for the establishment of other urban oases such as Parc Güell in Barcelona, Parque del Buen Retiro in Madrid, Alta da Boa Vista in Rio de Janeiro, Stanley Park in Vancouver, Ibirapuera in São Paulo and Golden Gate Park in San Francisco to mention a few. My favorite spot? The Shakespeare Garden, where you can feel your blood pressure lower as you enter the quiet.
